Workshops and Short Courses
Colour into cloth – Fabric Painting and print.
Screenprinting and painting courses are taught by Carole at her studio near Bath, at West Dean College near Chichester, and at Quattro Archi Studio and Gallery in Tuscany.
In Bath, Carole teaches painting and print for textiles and other surfaces, with two screen printing tables, a heat press, dyes and pigments and a selection of fabrics available for sale. You can learn to paint with dyes and pigments on silks and cottons and to screen print and transfer print on other materials. No previous experience is needed; just an enjoyment of colour and cloth. There are weekly classes, taster days, and two day workshops. One to one tuition, small groups and teacher training are available on request.
Accomodation : Carole’s studio is 3.5 miles east of Bath on a country road, the A4 between Batheaston and Box, with shops a short car ride away. Carole runs a self contained flat which can sleep up to 5 people with a self contained kitchen, on the studio property – which puts you on site and allows for working (unsupervised) in the evening on the Saturday : contact us direct at carole@carolewaller.co.uk – and see pictures on our facebook page stayatonetwofive . Barga is a most beautiful hilltop town an hour from the lovely city of Lucca in NorthernTuscany. Quattro Archi was founded and is run by Jane and Michael Richardson with printmaking studios, accomodation and a gallery in a series of complex refurbished spaces on several levels, minutes from the beautiful Duomo, thought to have its origins in Etruscan times.
The 5 days will be spent drawing, painting and screenprinting with dyes onto natural fabrics and paper – inspired by the colourful and dramatic medieval town and astonishing mountain views. No previous experience is required – just a love of colour and play. Time to explore the town on foot will be built into the course.
Barga is steep and hilly with narrow stone cobbled streets, so uphill walking and good shoes are integral to the experience! It is quiet and unspoilt.A small supermarket and local shops are in the new town 10/15 minutes walk away. Carparking is available outside the walls and there are good train and bus communications. Pisa is the nearest airport – and Florence and Sienna are not far away.
Accomodation within the Quattro Archi complex includes breakfast and there are 2 well appointed kitchens where you can self cater for other meals. The old town has many reasonably priced restaurants and bars just a few minutes from the studios.
I am delighted to be having an exhibition of work inspired by my month long residency there in 2024 in the Gallery during the time of the courses in 2025.
