‘Dash’

Handpainted silk munha shawl ‘Dash’ Carole Waller

Painted with dashes of many colours this is the forerunner of a collection of smaller painted silk scarves – inspired entirely by the West Yorkshire moors around Holmfirth – and by the colours of our lovely Blue Merle rough haired lurcher called ‘Fly’.  Albeit the colours vere right away from the moorland greys and stone colours, and that the dashes in this piece verge on graffiti – this shawl is purple, fuschia pink, soft yellows and slate around the border.

Silk munha is a beautiful Indian silk fabric which is more sculptural in its handle than the fluid silk crepe chine which I also use for scarves. It has a beautiful drape and this huge shawl is almost a garment.

Slight discrepancies in the weave are integral to the nature of this artisan shawl woven in India.

Carole Waller art to wear:

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed and you can commission me to make a piece especially for you. I cannot colour match, but I can promise you a unique artwork. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
