‘Oasis’ handpainted silk chiffon kaftan Carole Waller archive
A lovely silk chiffon kaftan style designed by Janice Wainwright. The black painted transparent silk is imprinted with box shapes in gold and greys. Made in 2001 as part of a collection called ‘Oasis’ – and sold through Harvey Nichols and Liberty in London. The structure is of two squares of cloth with the back square sewn cleverly as a diamond shape to the side seams – making a lovely cocoon shape as the fabric falls.

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
