‘Oasis’ handpainted silk satin devoré coat Carole Waller archive
A floaty painted silk viscose satin coat imprinted with box shapes in orange, lavender, gold and pale gold on white. The devoré printing process etches away some of the satin surface to create areas of transpaency in the cloth. The fabric is delicate and must be treated carefully or the transparent areas will tear. Made in 2001 as part of a collection called ‘Oasis’ – and sold through Harvey Nichols and Liberty in London. The fabric is very delicate so its not for sitting at a dinner table – but good for a party!

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
