Oasis pink silk crinkle scarf by Carole Waller
This is a lovely crinkly silk – woven so that the miniature pleats are permanent and giving a lovely drape to the cloth. This scarf is from a collection called ‘Oasis’ from around 1996. A visit to a convent, the Monasterio de Santa Catalina, a 16th century Colonial building in the centre of the city of Arequipa in Peru – with it’s glorious colour washed walls – inspired a whole collection of painted scarves and clothes. From the interior space you could hear the chatter of people in the city but outside the walls – so my colourful cloths are overprinted with ‘indistinct chatter’ written by an artist and friend Joan Levinson in New York. The colours are mid rose pink, cerise, green, yellow and cream.

Carole Waller art to wear:
Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed and you can commission me to make a piece especially for you. I cannot colour match, but I can promise you a unique artwork. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood was formerly in Abbey Green in Bath.
