‘Scumble’

Handpainted grey linen ‘Scumble’ jacket Carole Waller

This collection explores colour and texture on a range of fabrics to reveal dynamics of light, shade and hue. I use layers  of brush marks and interlocking painted marks to build up a sense of colour and depth. Grey over cream is the main colour in this linen/cotton jacket –  with lots of tones of greys and scumbled brushmarks in blues, pink, yellow, mint and red dashes. There is a tote made of the offcuts of the cloth when we made the jacket – but the dog is not included.

It is made from a vintage French sheet in a linen/cotton – never used –  and purchased by me in a market a couple of years ago. It is wonderful fabric – full of life, swing and purpose.  The edges are frayed and fluffed up –  and this gets better as you wear and wash. It has patch pockets, painted buttons and fold back cuffs.

Wash separately on a gentle machine cycle and shake out before hanging up, or tumble dry . Iron if necessary.

Carole Waller art to wear:

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
