Handpainted pink fine wool shawl ‘Ellipse’ – is part of the Colourblock collection. This collection is completely abstract and explores colour and luminosity on a range of fabrics to reveal dynamics of light, shade and hue. Coloured ellipses in yellow, lavender, mint and red floats in a pink background. This shawl made of very lightweight fine soft wool, with a percentage of modal yarn , made using tree bark – and is prefect for all seasons.
An ellipse is a curve formed by a plane that intersects a cone at an angle with respect to the base that remind us of eyes. I love their delicate character as abstract shapes, this feels like a contemporary allegory of some sort.

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique and each scarf is signed. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’, the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
