‘Gossip’ painted wool gauze scarf Carole Waller
Jane Austen lived in Bath – and I love the thought of all those ladies and gentlemen of her books and in Bath – strolling around with nothing to do but gossip, heard and half heard.
So I took snippets of dialogue from ‘Northanger Abbey’, ‘Persuasion’ and from her diaries – and scattered and overlapped them on this small series of 1 blouse and 5 scarves. This twill silk scarf is painted with a slate grey border, turquoise, oranges, golden yellows and pink with layers of printed text in oranges and slate grey.
‘Gossip’ painted wool gauze scarf measurements :
Length: 146cm/57.5”
Width : 31cm/12”
Handwash, drip dry and iron on hot. Wool is easier to iron when very slightly damp.
Carole Waller art to wear:
Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed and you can commission me to make a piece especially for you. I cannot colour match, but I can promise you a unique artwork. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
