‘Dancers’ silk chiffon handprinted square scarf by Carole Waller
I was invited to make a collection of handprinted scarves with Beckford Silk near Cheltenham in the UK in 1994, as the first of their collaborations with artists and which we took together to London and Paris Fashion week. They continued to be printed and sold at Beckford’s shop for a number of years and I am selling some of the originals. This is a floaty silk chiffon transparent square called ‘ Dancers’ and has a row of drawings of processional dancers lurking in the brushmarks and colours of maroon, black, mustard, dusty pink, brick red with dashes of blue and white.
The Beckford Silk project was in the spirit of Zika and Lida Ascher, long known as one of the world’s most beautiful scarf labels, marrying the most luxurious fabrics with famous artists prints – from Matisse to Henry Moore – and for collaborations with some of fashion’s biggest names, including Dior and Balenciaga.

Carole Waller art to wear:
Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed and you can commission me to make a piece especially for you. I cannot colour match, but I can promise you a unique artwork. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood was formerly in Abbey Green in Bath.
