‘John’ handpainted silk cape/jacket Carole Waller archive

This cape/jacket is from the early 1990’s and features the signature ‘heads’ common in much of my early work. this is John – a dear friend and my muse for a long time. Other archotectural imagery is inspired by the  black and white of the Duomo in Florence. The jacket has sleeves and buttons which are covered by the oversize collar, which is like a cape. It is painted and screenprinted on very heavy double silk crepe de chine in greys on white. There are some tiny coffee coloured marks under the cape not visible when worn. It has not been worn – but I washed it to see if I could remove the marks, which are dye, I suspect. I always was a messy worker.

Carole Waller art to wear:

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
