‘Ledger’ handpainted velvet devoré bias slip dress Carole Waller archive
The bias cut of this slip dress means that it shapes itself to the figure in a most flattering way because the fabric becomes slightly stretchy when cut on the diagonal. It’s the most recent piece from my archive and was made in 2016 when we had our gallery in Bath. The images in the etched velvet are of the ‘Ledger’ stones on the floor of Bath Abbey – and the textured cloth is then painted with purple, blue, red and deep pink dyes.
Measurements are approximate as the dress length will vary depending on the shape of your figure but it fits an 8/10 UK 6/8 USA : Backlength : 124cm/48″ Bust : approx 86cm/34″
Dry clean or wash gently by hand, spin and tumble dry to raise the pile.

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment.
