Handpainted silk georgette cardigan Carole Waller
A pre-loved, hardly worn, translucent silk georgette ‘cardigan’ – with no buttons and a neat stand up collar at the back which falls into a slight shawl collar as it drapes round the neck.
The colours are dark mint green, cobalt blue, red and yellow – abstract design with a bright blue ‘X’ on the back.
This unique archive collection comprises the estate of a collector who bought pieces, often the signature items, from every collection during a twenty-year period. Her stunning taste means this collection is a brilliant retrospective of my work over this time period. She always chose pieces most carefully and spent time with Carole to find her absolute favourite pieces which would flatter and suit her colouring and style. She adored colour, literature, music and the visual arts.
The family has entrusted this striking collection back to me to sell and raise funds for her favourite museum, The Holburne Museum in Bath and also for Dorothy House Hospice.
Niki Jewett is helping me with this project and she writes :
It is beautiful to be taken on a walk through the different phases of Carole’s work with colour and mark-making over the last 20 years through this retrospective. Many of the pieces have never been worn, although many were worn to events at Glyndbourne and other special events at galleries and museums.

Carole Waller art to wear:
Each painted garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique wearable art – art to wear. My technique is to handpaint and screenprint each piece at the studio – which is just outside Bath. My fabrics are unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work, and consequently no two pieces are the same.
I also make bespoke commissions and would be delighted to work with you to create the style you prefer, in the colours and cloth of your choice. Despite the fact that I cannot colour match, I can promise you a unique artwork. Visitors are welcome anytime, by appointment.
Waller&Wood.
Waller and Wood is our gallery name from the time we had a retail gallery in Bath between 2015 and 2020. My studio and small showroom is now at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking.
The code for this piece is RC29
