‘Offcut’ handpainted pink organic cotton jacket Carole Waller

Cotton drill is a similar weight and structure to denim, and this loose fit unstructured jacket has a frayed edge finish to the hems which gets better with age, and with washing!

The jacket is part of my collection for 2023 ‘Offcut’

It is a one off original by Carole Waller and is painted and screen-printed in pinks, yellow, salmon, and cream , with a red stripe.

The ‘Offcut’ Collection : I have been making painted clothes and scarves since 1987 – and have one dressmaker. She cuts each piece out and gives me back the leftover painted cloth. My project this year was to make new things with these offcuts and I have made a series of paintings/collages and constructions exploring the negative spaces surrounding the abstract shapes of the remnants of the making process. This in turn got me drawing. I started drawing the shapes – making paper stencils to screen print new images to play with their relationships in a new collection of clothes and scarves in cotton and silk. Recycling and reinventing – slow and circular fashion in the extreme.

Carole Waller art to wear:

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work, so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed so that the label can be removed. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood and glass panels by myself.
