‘Offcut’ cashmere pyjama jacket Carole Waller
This loose fit unstructured jacket is hand dyed woven cashmere in a medium blanket thickness, perfect for Spring and Autumn worn like a cardigan – with painted silk appliqué sewn by Carole. It is part of my collection for 2023 ‘Offcut’. Pieces of silk from making other painted garments make the appliqué and are another way of creating composition with colour and texture. The edges are raw, with applied black cotton velvet ribbon for a neat finish. It has no buttons, but could be closed with a pin.
It is a one off original by Carole Waller and is near black cashmere with bright jewel silks.

The ‘Offcut’ Collection : I have been making painted clothes and scarves since 1987 – and have one dressmaker. She cuts each piece out and gives me back the leftover painted cloth. My project this year was to make new things with these offcuts and I have made a series of paintings/collages and constructions exploring the negative spaces surrounding the abstract shapes of the remnants of the making process. This jacket was part of the project and is the only one so far.

Carole Waller art to wear:
Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work, so no two pieces are the same. Every scarf is signed so that the label can be removed. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood and glass panels by myself.
