‘And Back’ handpainted silk faille coat Carole Waller archive

This is a heavy silk faille coat with a silk georgette scarf attached with a button at the neck. Images a plenty with lots of references –  Fra Angelico, floating figures, Egyptian heads, control boxes …… and earthy colours influenced by Italy. The base colour is a terracotta pink with black, greys, orange, soft yellows, and chocolate brown. I think its a bit of a ‘dream” piece full of unexplained narratives. It was made in 1993 in a collection called ‘And Back’ which I think had something to do with the Orpheus story. Buttons all down the front from a small usptanding collar. Not for the faint hearted – it looks regal and slightly monastic at the same time.

Carole Waller art to wear:

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique. They are handpainted and screenprinted by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’ and the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
