Hand painted aqua modal shawl ‘Ellipse’ Carole Waller – is part of the Colourblock collection. This collection is completely abstract and explores colour and luminosity on a range of fabrics to reveal dynamics of light, shade and hue. Coloured ellipses in green, lime, pale green, bright green, red, pink and cream float in a sky blue background. This shawl is made of modal cloth – a lovely, fluid, midweight fabric for all seasons made from birch wood.
An ellipse is a curve formed by a plane that intersects a cone at an angle with respect to the base, they remind us of eyes. I love their delicate character as abstract shapes.

Each garment and scarf by Carole Waller is unique and each scarf is signed. They are hand painted and screen printed by me at my studio just outside Bath. I use my fabrics as unprimed ‘canvases’, the paintings evolve as I work so no two pieces are the same. I welcome visitors anytime, by appointment. The studio and small showroom is at our home 4 miles east of Bath on the A4, with good parking and a warm welcome. Waller and Wood also shows beautiful stoneware ceramics by Gary Wood.
