This silk georgette shawl is painted in black and gold, and deep red. It is inspired by paintings in the Uffici Gallery in Florence in which gold embroidery is meticulously rendered in oil paint. My take on florals is a little more sloppy – as I sketched in an indication of plants to the white silk with wax . I then screen printed colour on top of the wax – and completed the rest of the painting. I steam my fabric to set the dyes and make the cloth washable – and this process removes the wax and leaves the image of the ‘drawing’ in place.
