A painted silk chiffon shawl – a huge swathe of silk which folds to nothing. Part of a collection inspired by paintings in the Uffizi Gallery, Florentine streets, doorways, churches and colours, corrugated metal gates and sparkling sunshine. ‘ The woman who knew too much’ is to be found, staring out of the painting straight into the eyes of the onlooker – in Masaccio’s ‘ Holy Trinity’ in Santa Maria Novella church. The ‘Santa Maria’ group of scarves and clothes were a direct attempt to paint the colours and effects of sunlight pouring through stained glass windows on the the walls, columns and floor of the church.
